Dental travel planning

Plan the dental trip around the treatment, not the other way around.

Leave enough flexibility for examination, laboratory time, adjustments and a change in plan if your teeth need something different than the remote estimate.

Do not buy the shortest possible itinerary.

Ask the clinic how many clinical days your proposed material and tooth count usually require, what can cause delays, and whether a final bite check happens before you leave.

Keep treatment and tourism separable.

Build your sightseeing around how you actually feel after appointments. Cosmetic dentistry can involve sensitivity or a need for adjustments. Do not schedule every hour of the trip.

Stay somewhere that makes follow-up easy.

A low hotel rate across the city can be a false economy if you need repeated clinic visits. Ask for the clinic address before choosing lodging.

Before the flight home

  • Make sure your bite feels comfortable.
  • Ask what sensitivity is expected and what is not.
  • Get your treatment summary and material information.
  • Know who to contact after hours.
  • Get aftercare, adjustment and remake policies in writing.

Bring time, not just money.

The biggest planning mistake is making the return flight more important than the final clinical check. Leave a buffer where you reasonably can.
